Polarization Maintaining Fused Couplers have a choice of function - They will split the light from the polarization maintained input fiber into two polarization maintained output fibers. Or the module will combine the light signals from two polarization maintained fibers into one single PM fiber.

These devices are often used in Optical sensing equipment.
