Fiber lasers are a specific type of solid-state laser, created with particular features, including high beam quality and high power output.
These Lasers employ an active optical fiber to create the required functional gain. This fiber gain medium is usually a fiber that is doped with certain rare earth ions, including ytterbium, thulium, praseodymium, erbium or neodymium.
Applications of fiber lasers include material processing, cutting, medicine, telecoms, spectroscopy, and military uses.
